INTERPLAY & VOCALPLAY

Unlock the Wisdom of the Body

WHAT IS INTERPLAY?

InterPlay is an active, creative way to unlock the wisdom of the body. It is a playful community arts practice that helps us reconnect a sense of personal wholeness and creativity through simple movement, story, sound and stillness.

In the process, we discover the wisdom in ourselves and within our communities.

InterPlay is firmly based in affirmation and looking for the good. In everyday life, criticism is often an all too present reality. Interplay encourages acceptance and reflection so we can really explore our personal creativity and potential in all aspects of life.

WHAT HAPPENS IN AN INTERPLAY SESSION?

InterPlay is easy, relaxing and fun!  Sessions usually begin with gentle warm-up exercises and typically include step-by-step ways of playing with the InterPlay forms (movement, story, sound and stillness).

These forms are easy to follow and often involve working in pairs or in small groups. InterPlay is a great way to connect easily with others in a safe and structured environment.

You don’t need to think of yourself as being creative in order to do InterPlay, but chances are you will find you are more creative than you thought! You get to play a lot with your own life “information.”

InterPlay is an easy and creative way to bring together your whole self - body, mind, heart and spirit.

You don't have to dive in at the deep end of InterPlay to learn and benefit from it. There is no "right way" of doing things. You choose your own level of involvement and won't be put on the spot.

InterPlay can help you develop your abilities to:

— express yourself
— play again and simply have fun
— connect and collaborate with others
— make stuff up on the spot
— expand your personal awareness
— find your creative power
— recognise your leadership potential

World-Wide InterPlay Community

InterPlay was developed by Cynthia Winton-Henry and Phil Porter back in 1989.  Nowadays, InterPlay is a community of people around the world who speak the shared language of a wide and deep variety of play.

A powerful tool to change people’s lives

As more and more people have learned how to share InterPlay with others, they are taking InterPlay into settings where it can be a useful tool for unlocking body wisdom for all sorts of people. It is being used:

— in prisons

— in schools at all levels

— with homeless populations

— in healthcare settings

— in social service organisations
